Non-Medical Campaign Updates: Best Practices for Sharing Progress
Why Posting Updates Matters
Your donors care about more than reaching a fundraising goal — they want to know that their support is making a difference.
By sharing regular updates, you:
- Keep your campaign active and visible
- Show how donations are being used
- Build long-term trust and encourages recurring support
- Increase visibility and campaign shares
What to Include in an Update
Unlike personal campaigns, these updates often represent groups or communities, not individuals. Be clear, specific, and impact-driven.
A great update answers these questions:
| What just happened? | Describe the latest development or activity in your campaign. | E.g., “I enrolled in the semester!” / “We distributed 50 food kits.” |
| How did donations help? | Show the link between donor contributions and real outcomes. | Be specific: “SGD $300 covered my course fees for the month.” / “We bought school kits for 25 children.” |
| Who benefited? | Put a human face to the impact | Share your own story or a beneficiary’s story |
| What’s next? | Give a preview of upcoming steps or remaining needs so donors know how they can keep helping. | Keep supporters updated on future milestones or needs |
| A message of thanks | Express genuine gratitude so donors feel valued and appreciated. | Always close with a note of gratitude |
| A video or photo | Visual updates create a stronger emotional connection. | Just one honest, clear image can say so much. |
Types of Updates You Can Share
Use the theme that best matches your situation. You can mix them across different updates.
|
Keep donors informed about ongoing work, even if there’s no major milestone yet. | “Construction of the temporary school building began in July 2025, and by August, the foundation was completed and the steel frame securely erected.” |
|
Highlight a touching or meaningful moment. These moments help donors see the joy and relief their contributions bring. |
Examples of emotional, specific moments are:
|
|
Celebrates progress and shows donors their impact in action. | “We hit 75%! This helped us secure safe housing for 80 families and stock the community kitchen.” |
|
Be transparent about challenges or delays. Openness strengthens trust and encourages continued support. | “Flooding delayed food delivery. We're re-routing now to keep families supported.” |
Media Tips
A visual update is more powerful than words alone. Donors want to see how their donation made a difference.
|
Video Tips Videos often perform 2–3x better than photos in donor outreach. |

Setback or Honest Moment Update: Ride for Life- In Support of Terminally Ill Patients
Fundraisers supporting the campaign have been sharing their journey in their Ride for Life. They not only shared the good points of their experiences, but also the challenges they went through, making donors feel like they are part of the ride themselves.
"Over the 11-12 Dec, I have completed the 200km+ on each day to fulfil the event reqiurements. On the first day, we rode through a heavy downpour from noon onwards but arrived safely at the end. The second day, we rode into very strong headwinds along TMCR as we did 3 laps over there. It definitely tested my mental and physical strength to complete especially on the second day.
There were times I wanted to just stop riding due to the pain from the saddle sores. But I pressed on, because its a commitment to you as donors and supporters, but also for those caref or in HCA, who are in greater suffering."
Why it works: It conveys dedication and resilience, showing that the cause is worth enduring hardship for—and that the donor’s support is part of that determination.
