Medical Campaign Updates: Best Practices for Sharing Patient Progress
Why Posting Updates Matters
Donors give because they care—and they want to know their support is making a difference.
By sharing regular updates, you:
- Keep your campaign active and visible
- Build deeper trust with your supporters
- Encourage more people to give or share
- Help donors feel their support is making a real difference
What to Include in an Update:
You don’t need big news to share something meaningful. Small steps, emotional moments, and simple expressions of gratitude are just as powerful.
A strong update typically includes:
| What just happened? | Share a recent moment or step forward. | Example: “We saw the doctor today” or “I just finished my first week of therapy.” |
| How donations are helping | Let supporters know how their kindness is creating change. | Example: “Your donations helped pay for my medication this week.” |
| How the patient is doing | Be honest. Whether it’s a hopeful day or a hard one, let people in. | Example: “He’s still in pain, but resting and smiling more today.” |
| Next steps or needs | Let supporters know what to expect or what’s still needed. | Example: “We’ll start the next round of treatment next week.” |
| Thank you message | Always end with heartfelt gratitude. | Example: “Thank you for helping us get this far. We truly couldn’t do it without you.” |
| A video or photo | Visual updates create a stronger emotional connection. | Just one honest, clear image can say so much. |
Types of Updates You Can Share
Use the theme that best matches your situation. You can mix them across different updates.
|
A brief note on how things are going—good or bad. | “She completed another round of treatment and is resting well. We’re taking it one day at a time.” |
|
Highlight a joyful or meaningful moment. These don’t have to be big milestones—just moments that bring light. |
These could be like the examples below:
|
|
Let donors know when a major step has been reached—financially, emotionally, or medically. | “Thanks to your support, we reached our goal and were able to pay the first hospital bill.” |
|
If something difficult happens, it’s okay to share. Being open strengthens trust and invites continued support. | “We had a tough week with unexpected complications, but we’re staying hopeful and grateful.” |
Media Tips
A visual update is more powerful than words alone. Donors want to see how their donation made a difference.

Video Tips Videos often perform 2–3x better than photos in donor outreach. |

"Hello everypawdy!
My last review went well! I had been given 15 min on stroller walk each day! I am still on staycay with Manny P as he is not working currently. Though our walks had been cut SHORT, I still get a breather outside for a while each day."

Why it works: Even small updates help supporters feel close and involved in Ted's journey

Setback or Honest Update: Please help Tofu walk better
The journey of Tofu to walk better has not been an easy one. Updates from the fundraisers were honest on the experiences the male Japanese Spitz gone through, including sharing details of setbacks they experienced.
"Hi everyone!
Recently, our brave boy had a little scuffle with one of his fellow rescue mates – nothing too serious, but it did mean a trip to the vet just to make sure everything was okay. Thankfully, he got the all-clear, and he's back to focusing on building strength through rehab. 🐶✨"

Why it works: Transparency builds trust. Donors feel honored when you share the full story—not just the highlights.
